SAFE Block is a software-based write blocker computer forensics implement representing the Windows 2000 / XP Operating Systems. SAFE Block facilitates the quick and safe acquisition and / or scrutiny of evidence on any disk or flare storage media attached undeviatingly to your forensic workstation. It has a unsophisticated Windows GUI interface that allows the purchaser the aptitude to lump and un-block any disk or flare storage mechanism detected by Windows. Devices are listed in a tree by classification (USB, SCSI, IDE) and, where appropriate, by controller and waterway. SAFE Block provides the aptitude to simultaneously write lump as profuse disk devices as are connected to a computer without the need representing multiple precious hardware write blocking devices. SAFE Block is employment independent and works with all forensic acquisition and scrutiny applications that race on Windows 2000 / XP. SAFE Block allows representing write blocked, Windows-based, disk imaging speeds that are significantly faster than imaging in Windows using commercially available hardware-based write blockers. SAFE Block identifies and provides access to Host Protected Areas (HPAs) and Device Configuration Overlay (DCOs) on IDE (PATA and SATA) disks, connected undeviatingly via PATA or SATA controllers. HPAs are temporarily removed and erect no permanent modification to the disk configuration, using volatile HPA commands. Since a DCO cannot be removed temporarily, SAFE Block preserves all DCO intelligence, allowing safe eradication of the DCO or HPA / DCO grouping, then upon termination of the acquisition, replacement of the DCO or HPA / DCO grouping back to its original shape. SAFE Block provides robot write blocking of all undeviatingly attached media, including IDE, SCSI, USB, and IEEE 1394. The purchaser controls robot write blocking policies representing attached and / or removable disks. The purchaser can have SAFE Block remember each mechanism's blocked or un-blocked stature representing relaxation of utter on media repeatedly employed on a workstation / laptop.
